Nel 1782 Johannes van Nelle aprì sul Leuvehaven un negozio di caffè, tè e tabacco, e un secolo e mezzo dopo la sua azienda vendeva caffè con le fiabe dei fratelli Grimm. Un dipendente rielaborò la storia del pescatore e di sua moglie nella vicenda dello gnomo Piggelmee, che viveva in un vecchio vaso di grès. Le figurine per i suoi libretti si ottenevano con i bollini raccolti comprando caffè e tè, e lo gnomo finì poi sui dischi di grammofono e sul palcoscenico. Il caffè Van Nelle è sparito negli anni Novanta, mentre lo gnomo ha avuto un francobollo tutto suo nel 2008 - la pubblicità è sopravvissuta al prodotto.
