About coffee in Dresden

The paper filter, without which there would be no home pour-over and no V60 today, was invented by a Dresden housewife fed up with grounds in her cup. Melitta Bentz punched holes in the bottom of a brass pot and lined it with blotting paper torn out of her son's exercise book. The utility model application went to the patent office in 1908, and the company started up in her own flat on Marschallstraße with capital of seventy-two pfennigs. At the Leipzig fair she sold over a thousand of them and a kitchen idea turned into an industry, but Dresden did not keep its invention: at the end of the twenties the company moved to Westphalia and never came back.
