En 1782 Johannes van Nelle abrió junto al Leuvehaven una tienda de café, té y tabaco, y siglo y medio después su empresa vendía café con los cuentos de los hermanos Grimm. Uno de los empleados convirtió la historia del pescador y su mujer en el relato del gnomo Piggelmee, que vivía en un viejo puchero de gres. Las láminas de sus libritos se conseguían con los sellos que se coleccionaban al comprar café y té, y el gnomo acabó luego en discos de gramófono y en los escenarios. El café Van Nelle se terminó en los años noventa y el gnomo tuvo su propio sello de correos en 2008: aquí la publicidad sobrevivió al producto.
