Het beroemdste café van Florence begon als de Duitse bierhal van de gebroeders Reininghaus en dankt zijn naam aan de obers: het uithangbord kon niemand uitspreken, dus ging je naar die met de rode jasjes. Als Giubbe Rosse diende het later de futuristen als redactie, en in 1911 brak hier een vechtpartij uit met vakgenoten uit Milaan die pas op het station werd afgemaakt. Onder het fascisme moesten de obers hun rode jasjes uittrekken en witte aandoen, en liepen er tussen de tafeltjes verklikkers van de OVRA rond die doorgaven wie wat zei. Het rood kwam pas na de oorlog terug.
