Die Kaffeeszene in Komarno
Von der Westbastei der Neuen Festung blickt eine steinerne Jungfrau mit Lorbeerkranz auf die Donau, darunter steht die Inschrift "Nec arte, nec marte" – weder mit List noch mit Gewalt. Der Legende nach verspottete sie das türkische Heer, das 1594 unverrichteter Dinge von Komárno abzog, obwohl es hunderttausend Mann zählte. Der Haken ist nur, dass die Jungfrau jünger ist als ihre eigene Legende: Die Neue Festung, auf der sie steht, entstand fast achtzig Jahre nach jener Belagerung. Was den Türken nicht gelang, schaffte das Wetter – das Original kam ins Museum, auf den Mauern steht heute eine Kopie.
