Specialty coffee in Vicenza

Vicenza has lived off gold for centuries: the goldsmiths' guild was formed here in 1339 and counted around a hundred and fifty masters in a city that had some twenty thousand inhabitants at the time. One of them, Giambattista della Fede, married Palladio's daughter - goldsmiths and architects moved in the same circles. To this day roughly a third of all Italian jewelry comes out of the Vicenza area, and the gold fairs have been drawing buyers from all over the world since 1954. A city tourists come to see for its villas spends its working days on something much smaller and much heavier.
