Specialty coffee in Gavirate

Gavirate invented a biscuit that admits to being ugly. Costantino Veniani, a pastry chef trained in Milan, stuck a meringue mixture together with toasted almonds and hazelnuts in 1878, called it brutti e buoni and secured state exclusivity for the recipe from the ministry of the Kingdom of Italy. Verdi and Carducci are said to have dropped into the shop on the market square, and the Veniani family runs it to this day, in the same premises and nearly a hundred and fifty years on. The name does not lie: these biscuits really do look like something that fell onto the baking tray.
