Sandberg, the hill on the edge of Devínska Nová Ves, is an old seabed: 14 to 16 million years ago the sea reached this far and was about 60 metres deep. The site was discovered during sand quarrying, and palaeontologists have counted some three hundred species of fossils in it. Among them are shark teeth, a whale vertebra, seal bones and even the remains of apes. So the oldest relic in this Bratislava district has nothing to do with people: it is a shark's tooth.
