Specialty coffee in Alba

In Alba you unwrap your coffee: under a shell of dark chocolate sits liquid espresso, roughly as much as one shot. Ferrero launched Pocket Coffee in 1968 with truck drivers in mind - the newly opened Autogrills along the motorways had no bars yet, so the night shift had nowhere to pull over for a coffee. This coffee has a closed season: it vanishes from the shops with the first warm weather, in April or early May, and comes back only in October, because above 22 degrees the chocolate loses its structure and blooms with a whitish film. The town that sold the world the white truffle spends the whole summer with no espresso of its own on the shelf.
