About coffee in Wadern
In Wadern there is a baroque manor house that around three and a half thousand computer scientists from all over the world come to every year, and there is no way to sign up for it yourself - you can only be invited. Schloss Dagstuhl was the seat of the de Lasalle family, then an old people's home run by nuns, and since 1990 it has been a place where week-long seminars are made out of conversations, not talks. The seats at the table are reshuffled at every meal, on Wednesday afternoon the whole group walks out into the Hochwald, and you fetch the wine from the cellar yourself and only at the end of the week say how many bottles disappeared. For the duration of a seminar the library puts out the participants' own books and asks them to sign - tens of thousands of volumes on computer science, out in the country, half an hour by taxi from the nearest station.
