Specialty coffee in Skierniewice

Skierniewice calls itself the capital of horticultural science, and that one is not a marketing gimmick. The institute here has bred more than two hundred varieties of fruit and vegetable plants; over seventy percent of the raspberries grown in Poland are varieties from here, and close to half the cabbage and onions. There is also an orchard here of apple trees nobody plants commercially any more - varieties from old prewar orchards, collected before Cortland and McIntosh pushed them out. The collection was started in 1987, long before old varieties became fashionable.
