Specialty coffee in Pompei

Around eighty thermopolia have been dug up in Pompeii - counters with clay jars set into them, where the town ate and drank standing up. The jars still held duck, goat, pork, fish and snails, and at the bottom of one wine vessel archaeologists found ground fava beans, used to improve the color and taste of the drink. The front of a counter like that was often covered with a fresco of whatever was sold behind it. Advertising above the bar is older here than Christianity.
