About coffee in Grunstadt
Grünstadt had some two thousand inhabitants when its white wine was reaching Immanuel Kant's table in Königsberg. It was brought in by Johann Conrad Jacobi, the son of local innkeepers and wine dealers, who made a career in Prussia as a banker and kept close to the philosopher for years. The trail was dug out of old newspapers by the head of the local history society; without him nobody today would connect the vineyards below Grünstadt with Königsberg. The vineyards are still there, and still on good slopes. The customer in Prussia will not be ordering again.
