This village's greatest invention is hot hay, with people laid down in it. The farmers knew that a night spent in the barn takes away a whole day's tiredness, and Kneipp described a farmer whose sore leg was cured by fermenting grass. The heat here does not come from a boiler: hay from the meadows above the village warms itself, and the bather would scrape out a hollow in it and cover himself up to the neck. In 1903 the mayor Anton Kompatscher opened the first modern hay-bath establishment, and ever since then Fiè has been selling visitors what the rest of the valley gives to its cows.
