About coffee in Farchant
The whole of the Werdenfelser Land takes its name from a castle of which only walls remain today - and it was not war that pulled it apart, it was the neighbors. At the end of the seventeenth century the ruin of Burg Werdenfels began to be treated as a quarry, and in 1728 the people of Farchant brought in the Munich builder Johann Mayr to put up a baroque church for them out of those stones, in place of the old gothic one. The seat of the bishops of Freising, who ruled this valley for over five hundred years, thus stands today in the village, remade into a nave. No castle towers over Farchant - to see it you have to go into the church.
