About coffee in Bad Soden
Ten of Soden's thirty springs are officially recognised as medicinal, and for two centuries the town lived off people who came to drink the water. The salt left over from the springs went into pastilles - Fay's Soden mineral pastilles were sold for coughs and hoarseness, and the advertising even promised protection against diphtheria. Doctors stopped believing it faster than the spa stopped selling them. The cure itself ended in 2001, when the spa company was wound up and the baths closed; three hundred years left behind a wealthy Frankfurt suburb and the word Bad in the name, which outlived its own contents.
