Plant milk (cafe context)

Plant-based milk, often referred to in specialty coffee shops as a plant drink or alternative milk, is a dairy-free option made from ingredients like oats, almonds, soy, or peas. The most common versions you will see behind the bar carry a "Barista" label, meaning they have a specific formulation designed to hold up under hot steam and create a smooth, glossy microfoam. A high-quality plant milk is meant to complement the coffee rather than overpower it, working in harmony with its natural flavor notes. Oat milk has become the industry favorite because its natural sweetness and creamy texture blend seamlessly with espresso without leaving a strong aftertaste that might mask the unique character of the coffee beans.
