AeroPress

The AeroPress is a small plastic brewer invented in 2005 that works a bit like a syringe — you press a plunger down and the pressure pushes water through the coffee in a matter of seconds. The result is a smooth, strong brew ready in under two minutes. What makes it special is how forgiving it is: you don't need to be precise about water temperature or grind size to get a great cup. That's why it's a favourite among travellers and home brewers. Depending on how you use it, you can pull something close to an espresso or a lighter, more pour-over-style drink. It was designed by Alan Adler — the same engineer behind the Aerobie flying rings — which is why the AeroPress feels more like a well-calculated piece of sports equipment than a piece of bar kit.
