The arms factory came to Uherský Brod out of fear of war with Germany: Česká zbrojovka moved production out of Strakonice, right up against the Bavarian border, as deep into the country as it could get. The halls on the edge of town went up in six months, and at the start of 1937 they began turning out aircraft machine guns. Its most famous product, though, turned out to be the CZ 75 pistol, so poorly protected by patents that it became one of the most copied handguns of its kind in the world. The original is still made in Brod; the copies, wherever nobody bothered to ask about a license.
