About coffee in Trebic
Before Třebíč made the UNESCO list, all of Czechoslovakia knew it — for its shoes. The Budischowsky family of tanners handed the trade down from father to son here from the 16th century, and in the 19th century their works in Borovina grew into one of the largest tanneries in Austria-Hungary and the main supplier of military kit to the Austrian army. After the monarchy fell, Baťa took over the factory, and under communism the plant here turned out 22 million pairs of shoes a year, almost one pair in five in the whole country. Production stopped in 2000, and with it ended more than four hundred years of this town living off leather.
