About coffee in Slavicin
For a long time, Slavičín's best-known export was its men — more precisely, itinerant animal gelders. From the 18th century on, they set out from the surrounding villages with their tongs, bound for Germany, Hungary and as far as Russia; at home they were called miškáři or šviháci. The trade had guild rules and an exam that an apprentice sat before an experienced master. It was ended only by a 1951 law that handed the job to vets, but the surname Miškařík is still very common here.
