About coffee in Rajhrad
The oldest Benedictine monastery in Moravia was sacked in the 13th century by the Tatars, then the Cumans, then Habsburg troops. After the last raid, its burned-out, abandoned walls were taken over for a few years by adventurers from the minor nobility, who rode out from here to plunder the surrounding countryside. Less than half a century later, John of Luxembourg granted the abbey full judicial power, right of the sword included. So the Benedictines could sentence to death anyone who followed in the footsteps of their monastery's former tenants, and they kept that right for the next four hundred years.
