About coffee in Pisek

Písek was the first Czech town to get permanent electric street lighting, with arc lamps installed by František Křižík. The power came from the town mill on the Otava: at first an ordinary waterwheel supplied more than eighty lamps. The mill has never stopped since — two Francis turbines have been running there since 1901, making it the oldest hydroelectric plant still in operation in the country. The Prácheňské muzeum runs guided tours of it, except that the exhibits are still generating electricity.
