About coffee in Hodonin
Hodonín's most precious water was once a waste product of oil extraction. In the 1950s oilmen noticed that the brine pumped up along with the oil was rich in iodine, and doctors at the local hospital began using it to treat severe war injuries to bone. Before a patient could get into the bath, the water had to be cleaned of oil: some of it separated on its own, and birch shavings caught the rest. Hodonín has no sea, but it has what's left of one: two kilometres underground, 15 million years old, with several times the iodide content of the Dead Sea.
