There's almost half a cottage for every resident of Hlásná Třebaň: some six hundred weekend cottages have gone up here since the 1930s, while just under 1,300 people live here year-round. The village on the Berounka turned into a summer retreat, and until 1960 you crossed to the other bank by ferry; only then was a footbridge built. Ivan Mládek wrote a song about it that made it into the campfire songbooks. In it, a fern grows by the river, the mosquitoes bite, and nobody minds.
