About coffee in Dolni Kounice
For centuries no more than 111 Jewish families were allowed to live in Dolní Kounice, not one more. That small community left behind one of the oldest synagogues in Moravia and a cemetery of around 1,500 headstones, where the ancestors of Austrian chancellor Bruno Kreisky are buried. After the war the synagogue served as a warehouse for the Fruta works in Modřice, which eventually became its owner. It was handed back to the Jewish community of Brno only in 1991, after forty-odd years as a storeroom.
