About coffee in Chrudim

The most recognisable house in Chrudim was built by a soap maker. Matěj Mydlář, a wealthy maker of soap and candles, turned a Gothic town house into a Renaissance one, and his son added a minaret-like tower that people called the observatory. Legend has it that Tycho Brahe himself stayed here, though no document bears this out. Today the soap maker's house is home to puppets — the international puppetry museum was put here rather than in Prague because since 1951 Chrudim has hosted the world's oldest continuously running puppetry festival.
