About coffee in Cesky Tesin
Český Těšín's most famous café, the Avion, stood right by the bridge over the Olše and turned its rounded functionalist facade straight toward Poland. It had a house orchestra and a roof terrace, and since the border crossing was only a few steps away, smugglers hung out there. On 1 September 1939 the retreating Poles blew up the bridge, and the blast took the café with it. The Germans cleared away the ruins, because the place had belonged to a Jewish woman, Rosalie Wiesnerová.
