About coffee in Ceska Lipa
In 1950 Česká Lípa had fewer than 15,000 inhabitants; by the early 1990s it had 40,000. The town sprouted prefab panel blocks, powered by industry and by uranium mined right next door, in Stráž pod Ralskem. That uranium was never dug up - it was dissolved underground: more than four million tons of sulfuric acid were pumped into boreholes 250-350 meters deep. The mine closed in the 1990s, but the cleanup still yields more than 20 tons of uranium a year.
