Specialty coffee in Ostrow Wielkopolski

The first gas flowed in Ostrów in 1867, and the gasworks was built and held for a quarter of a century by the British company W.C. Holmes & Co; the town only bought it back at the end of the century. What is left of it is a wet gas holder: a round, riveted tower in which a bell floated on a sheet of water, pressed down by its own weight onto a cushion of gas. Today the offices of a bank and an energy company sit inside that barrel, and the old rivets and remains of the installation are still visible on the walls. There is no more Ostrów address than a desk inside a nineteenth-century gas holder.
