Specialty coffee in Elk

The world's first Hebrew weekly came out in Ełk, then the Prussian town of Lyck. "Ha-Magid" was published here from 1856 for a very practical reason: the border with tsarist Russia ran a dozen or so kilometres away, and Russian censorship stopped at it. The print run reached eighteen hundred copies, but it was read in Warsaw, Vilnius and St Petersburg, where it arrived smuggled across the border. For more than thirty years a provincial town on the edge of Prussia was the capital of modern Hebrew journalism.
