Specialty coffee in Zamosc

Zamość began with an invitation: in 1585 Jan Zamoyski granted the newcomers from Kaffa a charter, gave them their own street off the market square, the right to build a church and to hold their own courts. Armenian merchants traveled for goods to Istanbul and Persia, but they also reached Venice, London and Lisbon, and by the end of the seventeenth century every seventh resident of the town was Armenian. Then wars cut the routes, the community grew poor and in the middle of the eighteenth century it formally ceased to exist. The street is still called Ormiańska, the townhouses still stand in the market square frontage, and a khachkar in their memory went up only a few years ago.
