About coffee in Walcz
In the winter of 1890/91 a wooden bridge was thrown across Lake Raduń at its narrowest point, so the people of Wałcz would not have to walk all the way round the water or wait for the ferryman. Twenty years later a local who had made his money in Berlin gave Wałcz two little steamboats - their funnels would not fit under the span, so the middle of the bridge was raised, and it has kept the hump ever since. The war destroyed the bridge, soldiers rebuilt it in wood, and since 1978 an eighty-five-metre steel structure has hung there. Julia is said to drift along the shore in her wedding dress - her fiancé came back from Berlin with a wife, and she jumped off that wooden bridge into the lake.
