Specialty coffee in Velky Krtis

The train from Lučenec to Veľký Krtíš ran through Hungary: of its 41 kilometres of track, 16 lie on the Hungarian side of the border. The route was set by coal - the line was built mainly to haul it out of the local mines, and the simplest option was to hook it up to a line the neighbours already had. It is the only line in Slovakia that dips into another country on the way between two Slovak towns. The final stretch, into the town itself, opened in 1978, and passenger trains stopped running on it just fourteen years later.
