Specialty coffee in Surany

Šurany is said to be where pure white refined sugar was first made. A Czech sugar maker and two Viennese merchants built a sugar factory with a refinery here in the mid-19th century, and its sugar went on to be shown at exhibitions in Vienna and Paris. The factory ran like a town of its own: it had its own brickworks, fed electricity into the public grid, and the first telephone in Šurany stood right there, with the number one. Sugar was made here for almost a century and a half, until 2000, and today BMX riders train in one of the abandoned halls.
