About coffee in Oswiecim
The town's Jewish residents called it Oszpicin - from the Aramaic word for guests, because for four centuries it took in people who had been driven out from somewhere else. Before the war Jews were more than half the population here, around eight thousand people. The last of them, Szymson Kluger, went through three camps, came back, and until 2000 lived alone in the family house on Podzamcze. For his funeral a rabbi had to be brought in from Kraków and students from America, because the town no longer had ten Jews to say the prayers.
