Koluszki is home to the only place in Poland where the Polish Post has the right to open somebody else's parcel. Everything that could not be delivered ends up here: car parts, jewellery, letters to Santa addressed any old how, once even a venomous spider, and more than five thousand parcels arrive a month. For years the contents went to auction every quarter, starting at seventy percent of shop price, until in 2012 the auctions were wound up for lack of takers. A town half the country passes through is also the place where that country loses its things.
