Specialty coffee in Frascati

Frascati brings to mind white wine and papal villas, except that this is where, in 1961, electrons and positrons were first sent at each other - in a ring 1.3 meters across. AdA, as the machine was called, was the world's first matter-antimatter collider, and it was thought up by the Austrian physicist Bruno Touschek. The beam was losing particles faster than the calculations said it should, and that is how they discovered the phenomenon still known today as the Touschek effect. Everything that came afterwards, LEP at CERN included, descends from a ring that would fit in a living room.
