Specialty coffee in Bergamo

Italy invented espresso and for decades considered the subject of coffee closed. Bergamo has broken with that more effectively than anywhere else: its baristas have been coming back from the Italian championships in Rimini with titles for years, and in 2026 they took two at once - barista and cezve/ibrik. Ibrik is coffee boiled Turkish-style in a copper pot, so an Italian ibrik champion sounds like a joke, and yet it is from here that one goes on to the world finals. In a country where the espresso machine is practically a system of government, that is a fairly subversive choice.
